Mr. Steve Stringer is a native of Jackson County, MS and a 1986 graduate of Moss Point High School. After attending Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College he went on to study at the University of South Alabama then took a job at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. After completing the apprentice training program at Ingalls, Mr. Stringer attended William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS where he studied classical guitar performance under Dr. Miroslav Loncar and Music Education with a concentration in French Horn under Mr. David Young. Upon completion of undergraduate studies in 1998, Mr. Stringer pursued a Master’s of Music Education with emphasis on instrumental music education at The University of Southern Mississippi while working full time as a band director. Mr. Stringer began his teaching career in 1994 as a private guitar instructor and then in 1998 upon completion of graduate studies and certification began his Instrumental Music Education career as a Director of Bands for the Richton School District in Richton, MS. Other Schools that Mr. Stringer has been Director Of Bands include: Northeast Jones High School, Hattiesburg High School, and Meridian High School. Currently, Mr. Stringer is the Director of Instrumental Music Education for East Mississippi Community College, where he oversees a rapidly growing program with ensembles that include: Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Rock Band, Spring Dance and Color Guard, and Basketball Pep Band. While teaching in high school Mr. Stringer’s ensembles consistently received superior ratings and the East Mississippi Community College “Mighty Lion Band” has enjoyed a period of growth in both quality and quantity. |

Mr. Stringer has received various honors including: Teacher of the year for Northeast Jones High School, Commendations for excellence Jones County School Board, and Commendations for Excellence from Hattiesburg School Board, and in 2009 was recognized by SBO Magazine as one of “Fifty Directors in America (representing Mississippi) that Make a Difference.”
Mr. Stringer and his wife Dr. Lorrie Stringer have been married for 16 years and live in Meridian, MS with their four dogs: Ginger, Belle, Lyndee and Buddy.
Mr. King, a native of Aberdeen, Mississippi, is a 1989 graduate of Aberdeen High School. After attending Itawamba Community College, he went on to earn his Bachelor's in Music Education in 1995 from the University of Mississippi. From there, King pursued further education at Auburn University where he was a graduate student in the Jazz Department. While there, he worked with the Auburn Tiger Marching Band, as well as the Auburn Knights Jazz Orchestra, a student led 21 piece big band that has been in existence since 1930. In 1997 King graduated with honors from Auburn University with a Master's of Education in Music. Mr. King began his teaching career in the fall of 1997 at Vanderbilt University where he served as Assistant Band Director and Director of Jazz Studies. He directed the Commodore Marching Band and the Vanderbilt Jazz Ensemble, as well as the Wind Ensemble. Feeling an urge to teach in the public schools of Mississippi, Mr. King took a position at Vicksburg High School as Assistant Band Director in the fall of 1998. As Assistant Band Director, King began the 3rd concert band at Vicksburg High, and took over the jazz band. Under King's direction, the jazz band played numerous times each year for many different civic organizations and public functions. In 2005, King became Director of Bands at Vicksburg High School. During his tenure at Vicksburg, Mr. King conducted the Varsity 3rd band, the Concert 2nd band, and the Symphonic band. He received superior ratings with all the ensembles he conducted. In 2007, Mr. King accepted the Assistant Band Director position at Alcorn Central High School, in Corinth, Mississippi, where he assisted with all areas of band, including teaching the indoor drum line and indoor color guard, which took 2nd place overall that year. In 2008 Mr. King moved to Quitman, Mississippi to be Assistant Band Director at Quitman High School. He wrote numerous arrangements for the marching band, as well as being in charge of the battery marching percussion. |
In the fall of 2010, King took the helm of Quitman High School Bands as its leader. He served there, receiving Superior ratings with all ensembles he conducted, until the fall of 2012, when he joined the staff at East Mississippi Community College as the Assistant Director of Bands. He shoulders instructional duties for Music Appreciation, as well as teaching private studio students. He conducts the EMCC Jazz Band and also fronts the Basketball Pep Band, “The Pride.”
In 2003, Mr. King received the A.E. McLain Outstanding Young Band Director's Award. He has served twice as President of the Capital District Band Director's Association. Mr. King was named Star Teacher for Quitman High School in 2010.
Mr. King and his wife, Christy, have been married for 10 years and reside in Quitman. Mrs. King is an educator as well, having taught 5 years in 2nd grade, 2 years in Junior High and High School band, and 2 years in 4th grade Science and Math. Although she no longer teaches in the traditional classroom, Christy continues to share her love for youth and education as she is now the Extension 4-H Agent and County Extension Coordinator in Clarke County. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Agriculture and Extension at Mississippi State University. The couple was blessed to welcome their first child, Jackson Berry King, on June 4th, 2012.

John Morgan is currently the Percussion Instructor of East Mississippi Community College Mighty Lion Band and has served this position since 2010. At EMCC, he instructs percussion section, teaches private lessons, co-directs the Pep Band, and serves as the media specialist for the music program. As a member of the band faculty, Mr. Morgan has been part of a team that has helped lead the band program to unprecedented growth, making it currently one of the fastest growing programs in the Mississippi. Mr. Morgan also currently serves as adjunct percussion instructor for the Pride of Enterprise Band of Enterprise, MS. A native of Mississippi native, Mr. Morgan is a 2005 graduate of Meridian High School and holds a Bachelor's of Music from Mississippi State University. During his undergraduate study, Mr. Morgan has served as a consultant in music and audio/visual production for various school districts, including: Starkville, Columbus, Aberdeen, Kosciusko, and Louisville. After completing his undergraduate studies, Mr. Morgan continued his pursuit in teaching as well as media consulting. On a quest for more knowledge, Mr. Morgan decided to expound on his minor by pursuing a Master's degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in media relations. In 2012, Mr. Morgan to a 6-month break from EMCC to become a student of the University of Southern Mississippi, completing his coursework within the span of one year. In the fall of this previous year, Mr. Morgan returned to EMCC, completed his final classes and is currently awaiting graduation in 2013. Mr. Morgan and his wife, Angelica, reside in Hattiesburg, MS. |

Cathrine (Katie) Harper Fulton is a graduate of East Central Community College and Mississippi State University where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology and a Master’s of Science in Exercise Science. While completing her bachelor’s degree, Katie performed with the Famous Maroon Band including a performance at the 2007 Liberty Bowl. During her senior year, she was also a founding member and officer of Statement Independent Winterguard who became Independent Class Champions of the Mississippi Indoor Association during their first year of competition. She also served at Color Guard Captain for the FMB during her senior year. While attending graduate school, Katie served as Auxiliaries Coordinator for the FMB and worked with the Color Guard, Bully’s Belles danceline, and Feature Twirlers.
Katie has worked with numerous marching bands and colorguard groups in her over 10 years of experience. She has worked with the EMCC Mighty Lion Band for more than two years now and is excited about the upcoming season! |
